Why Woodburners?
What are the benefits of having a wood burner installed in your property?
Cost Benefits
- Modern wood burners typically operate at 70-90% efficiency meaning that for each log you burn most of the energy ends up heating your home as was intended.
- Open fires are only around 20% efficient, the rest of the heat escapes up the chimney.
- Modern gas boilers produce similar efficiencies as wood burners, however the rising cost of energy means that your energy bill could be considerably higher.
- Wood can be sourced relatively cheaply and easily, saving you 's in the long run. We can help you source wood too.
- It is possible to obtain grants from within the UK for certain types of biomass heating systems.
- You don't need to pay for a CORGI registered engineer when the fire goes out either!
Even the Government agree that wood burners are a good thing.
Take a look at what The Energy Saving Trust has to say on
saving money whilst saving the environment.
You might even be able to get a Government
grant to help pay for your stove.
The national press seem to be in agreement too, here's a link to a couple of articles we've spotted
over the last few months:
The Telegraph says 'Wood Is Good', Nov 2008
The Guardian article 'Chop Chop, Get A Woodburing Stove', March 2008
Environmental Benefits
- Burning wood for domestic fuel is carbon neutral, it heats your house, not the rest of the planet.
- Burning fossil fuel (gas/coal/oil and electricity derived from such) alters the ratio of carbon
that was previous locked into the earth, shifting it into the atmosphere and thus contributing
to global warming.
- Trees are renewable, we can plant more of them, but once all the gas and oil has gone that's your lot.
- Encourages efficient management and controlled harvesting of woodland.
- Re-use waste wood as an energy source rather than send it to landfill.

Health and Safety Benefits
- Medical research has demonstrated that people living in houses with solid fuel heating are significantly less likely to suffer from
asthma and hay fever compared to those living in houses with other forms of heating.
- A good fire creates 'draw' and thus helps reduce damp in affected houses.
- Woodburners don't create irritable dry throats like some gas fires do.
- Whenever gas is involved there's always a risk of leakage or even explosion, not so with a contained fire, unless you throw a gas can on!
Atmosphere!
- Let's face it, there is nothing warm and inviting about a gas or electric fire.
- A proper wood stove on the other hand is the real deal, it's relaxing and peaceful.
- It is a conversation piece as well, everyone enjoys warming themselves on a real stove.
- Make a wood burning stove the perfect way to heat your home this winter.
Other Benefits
- Immune to power outtages (such as the one in Rossendale - Christmas 2008.
- Not vulnerable to the Russians turning off your gas supply in the middle of winter!
- The Stoveman's personal favourite benefit: Instant cups of tea in your front room become a reality by keeping a kettle on the stove.
