We believe in looking after the environment we all share. Here's how The Stoveman does his bit:
When wood burns it releases the carbon locked inside it as carbon dioxide - one of the main greenhouse gases responsible for climate change. However, this CO2 will be absorbed by a new tree planted to replace the one being burnt. This means that no extra carbon is put into the atmosphere - which is why wood fuel is carbon neutral.
The Carbon Cycle In A Nutshell
Trees turn sunlight and carbon dioxide into carbon - wood - which we can burn to create energy,
a truly renewable resource so long as:
- The wood comes from a sustainable source
- It is burned in a clean, efficient way
- It is used close to where it was felled
Every year 10 million tonnes of wood comes up for disposal in the UK, and yet still only 1.5 million tonnes is re-used. The rest is sent to landfill - what a waste! We source some of our own wood from local industrial sites. We recycle broken or damaged wooden pallets and use them as firewood. You can too!
Yes, we have a small woodland that we manage and with the help of the Lancashire Woodlands Project we plant new trees, one for each stove we sell!
The Stoveman manages his own small woods containing trees planted for each stove we sell.
Not exactly, we convert waste vegetable oil (WVO) into biodiesel by a process called trans-esterification. This process transforms WVO into a fuel that you can run your diesel powered car off. It's great for the environment because it means you are using waste material as a fuel source rather than refined, non-renewable fossil fuel.
It's also great for your pocket because each person has a biodiesel allowance (equivalent to about 15,000 miles a year) on which you don't have to pay fuel duty or VAT. For more information we can recommend talking to Eco2Tec who are based just down the road from us in Bamber Bridge, Lancs.
Biodiesel, it's great.Let The Stoveman make your house a home
